Reflection

Before this process I had never used or been on a blog, but I now know how to use one and create my own.

I have enjoyed creating the blog and completing the tasks but I have mainly enjoyed the presentation of the blog, this is something I hope to continue doing in differnt ways during A Level Media.

I am looking forward to learning something new and to use my current skills and hopefully gain many more.

High-end Magazines Target Teens

Miss Vogue

"High-end Magazines are desperate to appeal to the new generation of reader."

New studies have revealed that High-end Magazine readers are falling, Vogue's sales have fallen by 4.4% in early 2013 compared to the figures of 2012. Because of this High-end Magazines like Vogue and Tatler are targeting teenagers to ensure they have a new generation of readers for the present time and the future.

Some may choose to create new Magazines specifically for teens, where as others may chose to adapt their current magazines to make them more 'teen friendly'.

This story interested me as I want to see how these companies are going to take action to compete in the already competitive market. Adapting the magazines to make them for teens could cause them to continue to loose sales as their current readers may not like that they are changing the target audience therefore making changes to the style and genre of the magazine.

I personally do not believe that High-end magazines will be successful in targeting teens as there is already a large variety of magazines available to the teenage market.

Target Audience: Female Teens to Young Adults.

The title 'COMPANY' is well known and can be seen clearly on the cover as it has been written is bold font and in capital letters, so that it stands out. The bold style lettering is suitable for the target audience as opposed to flowing joint writing.

Why have they been used?
She is an American Teen Actress, therefore she is a similar age to the target audience making her relatable.

Fashionable 'Current' items that are suitable for the target audience and the season that the magazine has been released in.

Body Language:
Confident, Model like.

Facial Expression:
Confidence, strong, eye contact to show interact with the reader by drawing them in.

The camera angle is a close up shot but also feature almost all of her body. This is so that the reader can clearly see all aspects of her makeup, hair, clothing and accessories as this is the theme, style and purpose of the magazine.

Bright summery colours as this is the end of summer edition, so they are therefore trying to hold on to summer for as long as they can before moving onto autumn/fall, warm red and brown colours for the next issue comes out in October.

Short, to the point to immediately tell you what they are. Larger writing on the words they want to attract you to, phrases to interest you e.g. "20% off", "summers hottest trend sorted" and "#goodtimes".

Nashville

Nashville is the hit American ABC serial drama released on October 12th 2012. The 21 episode season lasting 7 months has been renewed by ABC for a second season currently set to begin on September 25th 2013.
It is named Nashville as the series is set in Nashville, Tennessee.

For two decades Rayna Jaymes (portrayed by Connie Britton) has dominated the Country music genre but is now failing to keep on top. Her label decides that in order for her to remain successful she needs to learn to share the stage by co-headline with the latest, young and current best selling Country artist Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere). Nashville follows the personal life of Rayna Jaymes during this time showing how it has affected not only her lifestyle but her husband Teddy Conrad (played by Eric Close), their two daughters Maddie Conrad and Daphne Conrad played by the singing sensation Stella sisters (Lennon and Maisy) and their friends and associates.

Season 1 Nashville Trailer

Nashville

The full list of all cast and crew of Nashville season 1 can be found here:

Season 1, Episode 1: Pilot

My View:
The episode is very good and clear in explaining what is happening and how each of the characters feel. This makes the episode extremely easy to follow by all viewers. The main plot of this episode is to show the viewers how successful Rayna Jaymes was and that she is now falling behind as her new record isn't selling as well as hoped. Rayna's label wants her to co-headline with Juliette Barnes. The episode follows how Rayna and Juliette feel about this decision and how it will affect their lives.

I first thought that Nashville was going to be extremely predictable but then as I have continued to follow the series I have found that it is anything but. Some characters have been given new opportunities and made decisions that I never thougth they would have. This makes Nashville more dramatic and encourages viewers to watch as it makes them want to find out what happens next.

When originally aired in the USA on October 12th 2012 Nashville received 8.93 million viewers on their Pilot episode.

Rayna Jaymes

Rayna Jaymes.jpg
Rayna is a nine time Grammy Award winning and nine time CMA Award nominee Country singer, most famous for her hit single 'Already Gone'. The 40 year old 'Reigning Queen of Country' is beginning to fade.
Rayna is presented as being confident when performing but loses a large amount of her 'sparkle' when at home. Because she is slowly losing her stardom she dresses young and fashionable to keep up with the latest trends to show she 'still has it'.

Juliette Barnes
Undermine - juliette-barnes Fan Art

Juliette is a confident young girl who has dominated the teenage market leading her to get where she is today. She sees Rayna as competition immediately causing the pair to dislike each other.

Juliette is presented as a young adult although she is very professional and aware of what she needs to do to succeed in her line of work. She dresses and looks very young to highlight the fact that Rayna is a lot older. She wears bright and tight clothing topped with jewels and sparkles.

Maddie and Daphne Conrad

Maddie and Daphne Conrad are the daughters of Rayna Jaymes and her husband Teddy Conrad. The two girls have been brought up listening to Country Music and Idolising their mother. Throughout the series hints are dropped to identify that the girls are interested in and love singing. Later on in Season One the girls give their first performance singing in a talent show and again later on debuting the hit Lumineers single 'Hey Ho'.

Media Representation

On www.slideshare.net the meaning of Media Representation is as follows, "representation refers to the construction in any aspects of 'reality' such as people, objects, places, events, cultural identities and other abstract concepts."

This means how the Media represents character, age and gender. Having and understanding of representation means knowing the difference between watching something on TV and in real life as media products re-present the world to us by showing a version of reality, not reality its self. Representation in media studies means thinking about the presentation of a group or individual to the audience.

Media Representation is often stereotypical and biased as it is coming from the opinion of an individual or minority, therefore it is an idea and opinion presented in their way to convince the audience that they are correct.

Three Resources I Found Most Useful And Why.

I found the first resource How To Create A Blog On Blogger the most helpful as it clearly explained how to set up and create the Blog. The use of video creates a step by step process allowing you to follow along whilst guiding you on how to use Blogger therefore helping you to create your Blog and adapting the purpose to your individual needs.

The second resource I found useful was Annotating A Magazine Cover  as this gave me an idea of how much annotating I would need to do on my chosen magazine cover and the types of things I should talk about, e.g. information regarding the person/ persons on the magazine cover and how the have been pictured and presented.

Name of TV Drama You Watched was the third useful resource as this gave me an idea and guideline of what is expected. It is a example of what I should discuss later on when I am doing that task.
